Observations of convective precipitation using a 94-GHz cloud radar are presented.

ProSensing Inc. has developed a low power solid state W-band radar for airborne measurements of clouds and precipitation.

Due to their short wavelength, millimeter radars are capable of detecting very small droplets.

In the early sixties, radar meteorologists acknowledged the potential of retrieving cloud and precipitation properties from Doppler spectra collected from vertically pointing radars.

  • Turbulence

Observations of in-cloud turbulence are fundamental to our understanding of the physical processes involved with cloud formation, maintenance and dissipation.
  • Precipitation

Radar rainfall estimates have been the goal of radar meteorologist since the first radar measurements. There are, however, many inherent problems in the practical application of this method.
  • Cirrus

In this paper unprecedented high-resolution observations of mammatus from a profiling W-band Doppler radar...
The NOAA Aeronomy Laboratory S-band, the ETL Ka-band and the University of Miami W-band radar were deployed during CRYSTAL-FACE at the eastern ground site (Tamiami airport).
  • Fair Weather Cumuli

Observations from a 94-GHz radar were used to define the vertical structure of marine fair-weather cumuli.
